WRITER MINI-PROFILE

A short film by Carlo Gebler about the writing of his book, 'Father and I'. This film is, in part, a reaction to the responses he has received to his account of the difficult relationship he had with his father, Ernest Gebler, and the terrible rift between them after he went to live with his mother, Edna O'Brien, at the age of seven.

In this evocative and moving piece, Carlo Gebler revisits and sifts through the seven trunks he has in his attic which contain his father's belongings.

He eventually realises the truth of Graham Greene's notion that every writer's life ends in failure i.e. no book is ever finished and no book can ever be right.
