MINI-PROFILE
Paul Durcan is one of Ireland's best-known - and best-loved - poets,
a quirky, perceptive and profound chronicler of his times. Alan Gilsenan
is an acclaimed documentary filmmaker whose work includes 'The Road to
God Knows Where' and 'The Casement Diaries'.
Inspired by Durcan's poem 'Six Nuns Die in Convent Inferno', Gilsenan
has made a short film which looks back at the tragic incident which inspired
it ‹ the death of six Loreto nuns in a fire in their convent in St. Stephen's
Green, Dublin in 1986.
In this elegiac, evocative piece, he not only illuminates the poem, but
also through it explores the Dublin of the 1980s.
