MINI-PROFILE
Charles Dickens's connections with Ireland have been largely forgotten.
Sé Merry Doyle directs a short film based on Jim Cooke's recently
published book, 'Charles Dickens's Ireland - An Anthology'. In 1858, Charles
Dickens came to Ireland for the first time. He read to packed houses at
the Rotunda in Dublin, and went on to tour Belfast, Cork and Limerick
to great acclaim.
Drawing on Dickens's journals and insightful letters relating to his visits
and readings across Ireland, Jim Cooke and actor Laurence Foster, known
for his one man show on Dickens, dramatise his experiences here.
